I am a senior citizen and this past year, I read the Old Testament for the first time. People ask me why I decided to read the Old Testament. I reply that it had suddenly occurred to me that the most important book ever written, I had not read. I had not known more than a smattering of what was in it. I attended Hebrew School, yes, my mom was actually one of my teachers. I had heard some of the Bible stories. But I did not study the Old Testament, was not aware of what was in it. The thought went through my mind - how could I have not read the Old Testament? How did I not read the book that contained the actual words of G-d?

When I did finish reading the Old Testament, I decided to read it again. So I just kept reading it over and over. From my perspective, as I have always believed in G-d, the Old Testament provided insight into G-d’s message, his words revealed what I did not know beforehand, which was the pages revealed nothing less than the absolute truth. I begin to comprehend how people spend their lives pouring over every word. I was reminded of the lyrics to “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof – “And I'd discuss the holy books with the learned men, Seven hours every day, And that would be the sweetest thing of all. Oy.” To use the words of the younger generation, ‘I get it.’
As a professor, I always found great pleasure in learning, I have a thirst for knowledge and now to combine this with the love I have for my religion, the readings the Old Testament is the perfect marriage of these two drives inside of me. Words fall short of trying to convey its impact on my life.
It is because of this, that on my newly created YouTube channel, I read the Old Testament without commentary, so the listener can engage, inspire, awaken, fascinate, engross, absorb, gleam, learn; that is have the words resonate as they see fit. This is why I created the channel.
